Hello, little bacons!

The final deadline April 16, 2017 is finally near and we hope that you have all been chugging along these past few months writing every creative thought that came around. This email will contain the format that you must follow when submitting your work and we ask that you do follow it!

Please also continue reading this email past the formatting information!

Extensions or Drop-Outs!

If you need an extension ranging from a few days to a week, email us. If you need more time past a week, email us and we will work something out with you.

If you know you cannot finish your story or you are procrastinating on telling us that you will not be submitting your work, email us. We would rather spend our time organizing the submissions we currently have and taking care of participating individuals than hunting down people who are no longer communicating with us.

If you did NOT do first check-in...

Your participation is suspended. We do not expect anything from you if you did not reply back to us a week after receiving your notice. Email us if you would like to repeal.

If you did NOT do second check-in...

You need to contact us immediately. There have been others who did not check-in but have actively emailed us and given us the insight that they will be submitting their final work. If you do NOT email us by April 23rd or submit a fic by April 16, you will be dropped.

We are not trying to be mean; however, chasing after people and writing unnecessary emails to those who will never reply is a waste of valuable time and energy.

Concerns with Livejournal and Russia

Back in December and early January, we read rumours about Livejournal's situation involving the Russian government and certain threats of censorship of specific topics. Concerned, Mod2 approached the other mods for ideas on how to protect the work of fandom writers as well as the continuation of BAE in later years. All together, the mods decided on a plan, but it wasn't until recently that we began considering going through with the plans we made a few months back.

For the 2016-2017 year, we will be posting on Livejournal as usual, but we will also cross post all works over to Archiveofourown.org. We understand that AO3 has a "download" button and this makes authors uncomfortable so if your work is below 10k and you do not want it cross posted on AO3, let us know as soon as possible!

After the fest, if your fic is above 10k+, you may request to have it taken down.

As for what the plan is for the future, we will announce it when we are further along in progress and are ready to present it.

With that being said, rest assured that we will continue on as per usual.

Know your rights as a writer!

• If you would like to remain anonymous (though we discourage this), email us and we will accommodate you.


• If, for any reason, you would like your fic to be taken down after the fest, email us and we will remove it from any specific or ALL platforms used.


• If you feel like you are being unfairly bullied or talked about because of your work / writing skills, talk to us.


• You have COMPLETE ownership of your story. We do not allow translations/adaptations/etc when approached because that is not within our power to approve/disapprove.


• You have the final say about what happens to your fic and its involvement in BAE.

Know your responsibilities as a reader!

• If you are reading a work that you suspect might be plagiarized, email us a complaint.


• If you are reading a work in which the author seems to have INTENTIONALLY gone against the prompter's likes/dislikes, email us.


• If you are reading a work that needs warnings/trigger warnings, email us.

As a community...

We will support all participating writers, especially those who have never written a story before or have taken the big step of participating in a fest for the first time. Therefore, for BAE2017, we, a community, will try our very best to support and help culture everyone's ability through kindness. Remember that criticism is okay, but let it be constructive! As we all know, sometimes it only takes one positive comment to help grow someone's confidence.

A note to all participating writers!

BAE mods would like to thank you for participating in the 2016-2017 round. We are always happy to see familiar usernames and newcomers sign up to participate year after year. Although the job of a mod is only to moderate the fest itself, we cannot help but also wish the best for you all as writers and as people.

We hope to see most submissions on April 16th, but if you need more time (a day or two), then that is okay, too! We understand that life/school/work/etc all play a part in your schedules, so rest assured that we do not look at those 1-2 day late emails and glare.

With that being said, thank you all for participating in BAE2017 and we happily await your final drafts!
