Hello and welcome to the official Baekyeol exchange! This is our rules and guidelines post for the 2015-2016 round, and it is crucial that you take the time to read this post because things will be slightly different than last year! However different it may be, the mods still wish for a fun and successful round!
This year, Baeconandeggs will be operating as a fic FEST!
What is a fest?
For those of you who do not know what the difference is between a traditional exchange (what we did last year) and a fanfic fest, here is a quick run through:
- You do not have a specific recipient
- You will NOT be assigned prompts
- People (LJ users) will submit story prompts (comments are screened) that the BAE mods will collect for a period of time before releasing to the public
- If you would like to join the exchange, you will look through the submitted prompts, find a prompt that speaks to YOU, and claim it.
- No recipient. No commitment to assigned prompts that you have to choose from. It gives you a variety of prompts rather than just 3 or 4. Express your creativity and excercise your freedom.
The 2015-2016 schedule.
- Prompting begins: August 1, 2015
- Prompting ends: September 1, 2015
- Claiming begins: September 5,2015
- Claiming ends: October 17, 2015
- Confirmation & Official prompt will be sent on: October 21, 2015
- 1st Check-in: November 27, 2015
- 2nd Check-in: January 16, 2016
- DEADLINE: April 30, 2016
- Posting begins: May 6, 2016
During claiming period, if you claim a prompt that is available, the mods will respond to your comment (if need be, then we will email) and tell you that you have that prompt. The email that will be sent to you on October 21st will be your confirmation email with included reminders for the check-in dates.
The minimum word requirement has changed!
In the last round, the minimum was 2,000, but because ROUND 2 spans over a longer period of time than ROUND 1 (more writing time), the mods have confidence that an extra 500 words can be managed.
Prompting
You do not have to be an LJ user to submit a prompt. You may comment under anonymous, but we do ask that you provide an email (or alt. way of contacting) in case your prompt needs to be altered (for clarification) or you have provided insufficient/incorrect information.
Claiming
You do not have to be an LJ user to claim a prompt. We do require that you provide an email or a concrete way for us to contact you. When fics are posted and the authors are revealed, if you do not have an LJ, you may give us the link to your preferred home base (ex. asianfanfics) and we will link your author name to that site.
When claiming, you must choose at least 3 prompts. It must go in the order of your first choice, second choice, and then third choice. This is in the event that your first choice is already taken. The mods will then give you your second choice if the prompt is still available.
It is a first-come-first-serve system! The first person to request a prompt as their first choice will receive it. The second person person who requests will not.
1st Check-in is easy!
Email us your username and word count. No documents needed. This is a self-report check-in. We trust that you will be responsible for your story's progression.
2nd Check-in
Email us your username, fic title (does not need to be official), word count, AND document (attached). 2,000 word requirement. More information will be given in the days prior to the check-in deadline. The formal format will be explained in the email.
Basic Rules
ANONYMITY. Do not share your prompt or reveal yourself to others. Authors will be anonymous until reveals.
PLAGIARISM is not allowed. The work will be taken down.
FLAMING/HATEFUL COMMENTING is not allowed on any work. Writers work hard, so please respect them.
BE ZEN. Don't stress yourself. We are here to help you. If you need an extension or if something has happened, let us know. Yes, being zen is a rule. You must follow it.
FRIENDLINESS is a way of commenting life.
RESPECT the prompter. If the prompt says (for example) "no bdsm", do not include bdsm.
RESPECT the author. Don't be ignorant or harsh. Constructive criticism can be helpful, but please understand the work the author has invested.
We hope that many of you are interested in joining us again! If you are thinking about joining, but you are unsure because it might be your first time joining a fest, don't be afraid! The mods are here to help and make this into a fun experience.
If you have any questions at all, comment on this post or email us at baekyeolexchange@gmail.com and we will answer you. DO NOT HESITATE TO ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE CONFUSED. We understand that operating as a FEST may cause some confusion amongst a few. The mods will help and guide you.
No little bacons left behind!
Love always, mods.
